SHEKAU RETURNS: says he is back and better

Leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau has again resurfaced in a recording and denied claims by Chadian president, Idriss Deby that he has been replaced by another sect member.

Mr Deby claimed that Boko Haram was no longer led by Abubakar Shekau and that his successor was open to talks.
“There is someone apparently called Mahamat Daoud who is said to have replaced Abubakar Shekau and he want to negotiate with the Nigerian government,” Deby said.
The Boko Haram leader denied that he had been killed or ousted as chief of the extremist group in an audio recording released yesterday attributed to him by security experts.
Cameroon will send about 2,500 soldiers to join West African regional force to fight Boko Haram Islamists of about 8,700 men, the defence minister said yesterday.
Chad, Cameroon and Niger, which have all suffered attacks by the Boko Haram sect, launched the force earlier this year to end a conflict that has claimed more than 15,000 lives since 2009.
The group has now widened its attacks from the north to across the country and staged cross-border killings and raids in neighbouring countries.
"The president of Cameroon has authorised the deployment of 2,450 soldiers to join the multinational force," said Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o, in a statement read out on national radio.
