The Calabar carnival which is termed to be Africa’s biggest street party, has colorful costumes and outfits on display with plenty of music, dancing and celebrations.

The annual event was kicked off by the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, on Sunday and this year’s carnival is the 11th edition. The carnival, which runs till December 31, has attracted many visitors and party goers, making Calabar the tourist capital of Nigeria. See more photos after the cut...

NDDC denies divertion of #183 Billion.

THE Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dan Abia, on Wednesday, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to deny that about N183 billion had been diverted from the commission's account. The Auditor General of the Federation, Mr. Samuel Ukura, had last week  Wednesday, said that N183 billion meant for the development of the Niger Delta could not be accounted for and therefore recommended that it should be recovered. According to the Tribune news, Ukura had said, while submitting three special audit reports to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa, that the amount was discovered in the periodic checks carried out by his office on the activities and programmes of the commission between 2008 and 2012. More than 200 houses sink as Flood hits Benue State.

In Makurdi of Benue State, many part of the City was today hit by a major disaster following over four hours of heavy rainfall which submerged and sinked about 200 houses, livestocks and huts and also swept away property and valuables of residents, worth millions of Naira. The latest incident which has taken its toll on residents was the second major flood disaster in the state capital, in the last four weeks.    The hardest hit areas included the Wurukum roundabout and railway crossing, Wurukum market, Judges quarters on Gboko road, Logo and Angwa Jukum which were completely taken over by flood water Also affected was the personal residence of the Second Republic Governor of the state, late Aper Aku, Benue State University (BSU), Living Faith and Dunamis churches,  Steam fast and houses on Daniel Amokachi avenue were all submerged in water.
